At the West Port
Exiting Ponton St and turning right you'd see this.
Fat Sam's at the corner of Semple Street.

A very interesting brick building next to Gardner's Crescent.
Shot with a 2 second exposure with the camera mounted on a tripod.
Chalmers Building
This is the view that greeted drivers coming from Ponton Street near Tollcross.
View east along Fountainbridge from 2003: Fountainpark on the left of Dundee St, Fountainbridge ahead.

Photographed on Open Day on 27 September 2003. The building is bordered by Earl Grey Street, West Tollcross and Dunbar Street.

The corner of West Port and the top half of Lady Lawson Street had this ugly concrete edifice.

Fountainbridge Library in Dundee Street.

The plaque above the entrance to Cordiner's Land is dated 1696. Next door you can browse at Victorian Illustrated and secondhand books.
Main Point is at the top of the West Port where it branches into Bread Street, East Fountainbridge and High Riggs. This bookshop is at the start of Lauriston Street at Main Point.
Metal doors and shutters protect the premises which now belong to Poundsavers. Woolworth's became like a filling station's shop without the petrol - then it went into liquidation.
Above a pub, unnoticed by many.

Tollcross junction looking towards Central Hall.
One or two tenement stair doors in Leven Street have interesting gargoyles gazing down on passers-by in Tollcross.

The tiny, wedge-shaped house on the edge of the Grove Street bridge. The balcony should afford fine views over the West Approach Road.
Diagonally opposite and sharing similar geometry, exaggerated by a wide angle lens.
Revisited again. This time I've shown Grove Street itself, extending southwards to the Fountainbridge junction. Photographed with an extreme wide angle lens. The converging verticals have been 'corrected' to prevent the appearance of buildings leaning towards each other.
iQ Student accommodation coming soon. proclaims the sign.
It seems like this isolated tenement is being refurbished whilst new buildings are erected round about it. The student population in this locality will soon increase significantly.
A full frontal view of the tenement. The stonework looks in good repair and the windows seem quite new. Even the drainpipe has a new coat of paint.
Further north along Grove Street and there's still a view of Rosemount Buildings behind the yellow crane. Marco's establishment is long gone now.
The view south along the road to Fountainbridge at the far end. The banner on the hoarding gives a web address like an abbreviated mission statement. Love Intelligence Quotient.
Riveted girders support the bridge over the Western Approach Road. Behind the site, Rosebank Cottages and Rosemount Buildings will soon lose their evening sunshine and their (in most cases) recently acquired view to the west.
At the other end of the bridge looking north east. Behind the next bridge at Gardner's Crescent is the squat cylinder of Edinburgh International Conference Centre. The Western Approach Road passes through the financial district before ending at Lothian Road.
Previously when walking from Morrison Street to Fountainbridge Marco's gym blocked the view of the brick-built Rosemount Buildings.
Most vacated land in Edinburgh seems to have houses constructed on it rather quickly in recent times (2008). Meantime, behind the pile of rubble, there's a new view of Rosemount Buildings.
Demolition continues on the south side of the bridge over the Western Approach Road.
A closer look reveals a big blue crushing machine with a conveyor belt to dump the processed rubble onto lorries for removal.
The West Approach Road runs under Grove Street. This south facing view show the continuing changes. Photo taken 17 April 2009.
Zoomed in to show Rosemount Buildings and behind, the new buildings at the end of the Union Canal.
This shot is facing north west towards the financial district and Lothian Road. The next bridge is Gardner's Crescent. The round building is the EICC.
Big changes have taken place at the end of this street with the demolition of the brewery and the building of new houses.
Upper Grove Place lies 90m north along Grove Street and the changes here include the loss of some green space.
The One way street connects Fountainbridge with Morrison Street leading to Haymarket.
Looking south towards the Fountainbridge end. Where Marco's health club once stood, new buildings are going up between the Western Approach Road and Rosemount Buildings.
A close-up of rusty rivets.
Infrared picture of the West Approach Road as seen from Grove Street. The wavy roof right of centre is the building at Fountainpark.
From the other side of the road looking towards the financial district and the EICC.
The bottom of Viewforth at Fountainbridge. The yellow sign points the way to Springside.
A path and a pedestrian crossing over the West Approach Road to Morrison Crescent. This is the start beside Fountainbridge facing north.
This is the view east from the same point as above. Grove Street is behind the 'bam' sign.
A few paces into Springside, looking back at Fountainbridge. An establishment here called Fingertips Sauna was flooded when the nearby Union Canal had a burst bank.
A little tiled road winds in and out of the pedestrian way. Cars are obstructed by potted plants and additionally by temporary fencing.
Facing north again, looking along the tiled road towards Morrison Crescent (just south of the Morrison Street carpark). Behind the blue fence is vacant land stretching 200m to Fountainpark centre.
Another look back towards Fountainbridge, showing the fencing across the little road which, in its pristine state, looks like an immaculate CGI rendering.
Almost at the West Approach Road. They've called this part McEwan Square after the brewery which used to be on this land. Usher breweries gave us the Usher Hall.
Upper Grove Place lies beyond the blue barriers. Its status as a quiet cul-de-sac has been compromised by new developments. At the other end is Grove Street.
Looking down a few steps to the crossing over the West Approach Road. There's a zigzag ramp for wheelchairs etc.
An overall view from the steps.
From further down, a wide angle view showing the intriguing top storey of this building standing right next to the West Approach Road.
The crossing and a view of the circular housing block called Morrison Circus.
The wavy roof on the left is Fountainpark. The older tenements on the right are the back of Caledonian Crescent. (A footpath now leads to Drysdale Rd.)
Heading back towards Fountainbridge I snapped this table and stools in a yet-to-be used children's play area.
Next to the fenced off play area was this maze-like bench. The table is a hexagon; this is a pentagon. Significance? Probably none.
Another look at 'bam' on the way out to Fountainbridge.
A final look before the short walk back up Gilmore Park to Leamington and Bruntsfield.
Previously photographed from the other end but this is the Springside end, hence the grey tiles and shiny metal things in the foreground.
